What is new in version 5?
Since CakePHP 5 brings a number of changes between version 4 and 5, we have created a detailed migration guide that covers all the deprecated and removed features and also highlights the new features.

- PHP 8.1 required
- Improved typehints throughout the framework. CakePHP now uses union types to formalize the types of many parameters throughout the framework.
- Upgraded to PHPUnit 10.x
- New enum type mapping support in ORM, enabling more expressive model layers with improved type checking.
- Table searchers with named parameters that provide more expressive APIs for creating queries.
- Added Time-only Time type and greatly improved support for Date and DateTime via chronos 3.x.
- Support for PSR17 HTTP factories was added.
